JROTC

I was in a Army ROTC program called Jrotc it was a class I've taken since my freshmen year. At Omaha South High the school of Arts and Drama. Jrotc purpose was to motivate young citizens to become better as a person and to be a leader not a follower. To show you the qualities of a leader and what it means. It showed me how to listen matter of fact discipline period. It helped as in being active to, it was a gym credit, you got exercise as a group every thursday from running to pull-ups anything you could imagine to keep us fit.
I worked with about 16 other students, we worked toghether as a team if one failed and accomplishing a task. As in if we were all supose to be at attention in line and majority of the platoon was talking we all did push-ups as a group. If given a huge amount we would divde them up as a a whole and each do a certein amount.
When we had competions with another schools we worked as one. To accomplish what needed to be done as in when we had our annual inspection where each school Jrotc program were to ranked. From uniform, to if we new the commands to being on beat as a group when doing commands to how our uniforms looked. So we each are given a job and a duty to wear the uniform with pride int help one another out.
We participate in school funtions such as the Cinco De Mayo parade we march representing the Army and Rotc program and our school pride. My fellow cadets and I worked together to come up with routines and with learning the Army song. When one messed up we would help them to get back on track, and cheer either on to always continue and never give up. We mentored younger students and helping with education, that gave alot of us cadets the opportunity to become that leader and role model to the younger generation.
Toys for Tots me and my cadets and Master sg. went down to the homeless shelter and did a little community service. We wrapped presents for the homless lil kids and less fortunate families who couldn't provide for there family for Christmas. I think that moment was what drew us cadets together it felt like another family. We were given the chance to shoot riffles and the opportunity to take charge and be in command. From telling others what to do but at the same time make sure there doing everything correctly.

My mom

My mom has made an huge impact on my life through out my high school experience. Not only did she give birth to me and my older brother. She's been one of the strongest mothers I've ever seen. She is also one of the most successful of all of her mothers kids. Who strives to her daughter the importance of life, and how to take advantage of the opportunity's passed your way. I someday wish to be just like my mom a family oriented woman, who takes care of hers and her own.
A beautiful black woman who cherishes the things in life including her two lovely children. My mom inspires me to want to get my bachelors, masters, and going for her Dr. degrees because she has all three and continues for more. My mom is a smart woman who well be graduating next August, with her Dr. degree for principal. She's the perfect role-model.
She's taught me that no matter how tough or hard things get even when the goings get tougher to never give up. Also success is a story and as long as you try hard enough you'll always succeed, and someday have that story to tell. Something I want to have for my mom before she passes on with god is that success story and that will be something I achieve.
My moms taught me almost just about everything I know today. From being a young woman to being wise and considerate of others. How she's taught me to be a young woman? She told me right from wrong, what was a lie to what was the truth. I learned self respect with her heck! I learned respect period. How a person is supose to treat another human being. My mom made the biggest impact on me with independence shes shown me and told me repeatedly what being independent meant.

The Campus

The campus I loved! It made we feel powered like my education was so much higher than the people who haven't had the experience to be in summer scholars or a college program period. Even know there were other groups their so much younger all over the campus. The library made me feel like a college student the technology was so much different from a highschool. The way you had to use your ID to print off assighnments. The fact it had a ATM made it better thanmy school library.
Oh! In the walk just to get from place to place is sort of like the walk around the school. But depending on where you have to go it can be very breath takeing. Gladly speaking both of my classes were in the same building. Made my 30 min break a little longer than some people I don't have class with. Somehting i really realized was the parking it was packed in almost all the parking lots. Even tho i didn't have to experience it. I dont think i to much would've wanted anyways.
The Starbucks Cafe was pretty good. Especially my favorite morning breakfast sandwich the pasani sausage. It was the bomb a great everyday meal for me. It was about 6cm fat! Umh mm good! The seating in every place or class in the comfy. I loved the college experience on the campus it was great.

co-op team building at Camp Carl Joy Holling

What I liked most about the Camp Carl Joy Holling, is being able to interact with the fellow participants in Summer Scholars. Not only did I meet awesome new people, I got to share a bond that I haven't had in a while with complete strangers. It helped me to learn about my roommates a little better. I honestly don't think I've ever met so many people at once. It was a great experience for me, knowing that I've never done some of the things we did at the camp or just ever been there before period.
The most challenging thing I had to face was the group high ropes course. Being about from 40 to 50 feet in the air helped me to realize if I was really scared of heights, because I really didn't know. But that wasn't the hard part, It was the trust issue; I have with people. It took so much courage for me to trust complete strangers. That it became an advantage for me. I don't think I would have ever gotten to experience or have even known of a such thing as a high ropes course. If I wasn't given the opportunity to be in the Summer Scholars program.
The thing that was most scariest for me was the individual high ropes course. Knowing that I was high up in the and alone made it worst. I had to keep telling my self "your strapped and you can't fall", just to accomplish the whole course. What made it a little easier were my fellow Summer Scholars participants cheering me on. When in reality I wanted to cry and get down. One staff member who really helped me was Kaitlin, sorry if i spelled your name wrong. She not only gave me the courage to continue the second half of the course, but she guided me. It was an experience of a life time,I feel if i could go through something that tough for me. That maybe I would have enough courage for sky diving, or even bungy jumping.
